Via Ron Padgett:
Shecky Greene is considered by many to be the ultimate, consummate nightclub performer.--Shecky Greene Homepage
I agree. He is really neat and good. His jokes make people laugh like a good joke should. Shecky Greene made jokes funny again after the Great Joke Drought of the 1940s. After being a U.S. naval hero, Shecky was a hero again, this time as a U.S. comedian. He helped wrestle the Japs into submission first and then wrestled the unfunniness out of jokes with funny jokes of his own. At the time, that was not the style. Unfunny jokes ruled the land. Shecky was an entrepreneur of sorts. A self made U.S. comedian hero. This is the truth. Sheck' funny. I love ol' Sheck'.
